Partnerships

Sonic Civil Alert works with people and organisations who want to create practical, community-led media, culture and public-interest projects.

We are interested in partnerships with community groups, gardens, food networks, artists, educators, youth projects, cooperatives, social enterprises, campaigners, researchers, independent media makers, local venues and public-interest organisations.

We bring independent community media: audio production, radio broadcasting, digital storytelling, visual communication, research, facilitation and accessible publishing.

What we can do together

A partnership could involve:

• Co-producing a radio programme, podcast or audio series

• Documenting a local project, campaign or community story

• Hosting an event, discussion, listening session or broadcast

• Delivering a workshop in media, broadcasting, storytelling or digital skills

• Creating accessible media resources and public-information content

• Sharing equipment, facilities, knowledge or creative skills

• Deploying our portable or pop-up broadcast infrastructure for promotional or community event coverage.

• Connecting audiences, communities and movements across different places

• Supporting and promoting communication around food justice, housing, mental health, education, ecology, mutual aid, culture, fair work and pay, rights and community resilience

How we work

We look for a real shared purpose, clear public or community benefit, and enough independence for every partner to speak honestly and to act with care and compassion.

We value:

• Mutual respect and clear communication

• Community benefit over extractive promotion

• Honest representation instead of public-relations language

• Accessible participation and practical inclusion

• Fair credit and recognition for everyone involved

• Transparent expectations and realistic capacity

• Shared learning and accountable decision-making

• Each partner keeping its own identity, priorities and independence

We do not want token roles or partnerships where community voices are used simply to promote somebody else’s brand. We are most interested in work that is meaningful, useful and rooted in the people it is intended to serve.

Starting a collaboration

A good partnership starts with a conversation. We can discuss:

• What the project is for and who it should benefit and how

• What each partner can realistically contribute

• How decisions will be made

• What resources, time and funding are available

• How the work will be credited, shared and sustained

For larger, funded or longer-term projects, we prefer to agree roles, budgets, ownership, safeguarding, data use, credit and exit arrangements from the outset. This protects everyone involved and helps avoid misunderstandings. UK collaborative-working guidance similarly emphasises shared aims, clear responsibilities, proportionate agreements and respect for each organisation’s independence.
